Rock Road™ is proud to have played a leading role in nearly all of the major heavy highway and road construction projects that have taken place in Rock County in recent years. If you’ve ever driven through the area then there’s a good chance that you’ve experienced our work firsthand!
The Alliant Energy BESS Project began in April 2024 and is projected to be completed by October 2024. This project involves constructing a 75 MWAC battery energy storage system (BESS) comprising battery cabinets connected to pad-mount inverter/transformer skids. These will connect directly to the collector substation for the adjacent solar field.
Rock Roads' scope of work for this project includes several key tasks. These tasks involve 5’ over excavation in equipment areas, non-frost susceptible backfill, excavation and backfill for concrete pads, excavation and drilling for site lighting, installation of geotextile fabric, constructing roadways with 1.25” dense graded base (DGB), electrical trenching, and electrical backfill. The project is situated in Wood County on agricultural land next to the existing solar field.
The project quantities include 16,000 cubic yards of common excavation, 27,000 tons of non-frost susceptible fill, 6,000 tons of ¾” clear stone, 21,000 square yards of geotextile fabric, 16,000 square yards of topsoil, and 6,000 tons of 1.25” dense graded base.
The project presents several challenges, including working in areas surrounded by electrical conduit and concrete and backfilling around thousands of feet of electrical conduits.
